  • I Work, I Sing, I Vote.

    1. Love and Work: Do they mix?

Let's be real. We all know that there is always romance brewing in the workplace. It's only inevitable. Where else do most people spend most of their day at ? Then you add the status/power hierarchy into the mix, and you get a workplace romance. You have Kanye West songs proclaiming, " You be secretary, I'm the boss tonight".  Speaking of work, I just met a new teacher there. She's pretty cute Yo! In fear of her actually having a Xanga, or somehow purposely stalking me online, ( hey it could happen!) I have to conceal her name from this blog entry.

She seriously resembles a more girl next door version of Minka Kelley. I've been employed at the school since November of last year. That's almost 1 whole year. However,  I have never met her before until this week. She apparently was just hired this year. She also told me she graduated from Cal State Fullerton! Woot Woot! That's a big plus in my book. It shows that you have beauty and brains if you are a Cal State Fullerton Titan. Anyhow, I met her this week when I had to translate for her parent conference. She had me speaking in different languages literally!

    (She looks like Minka Kelly.)

Other than that, there aren't any real big updates work-wise. Waking up early is always a downer, but the economy is down, and I have no better part-time job options.

    2. I Vote.
I mailed in my ballot today. I Voted.

While many people have great disdain of politics, I absolutely love it. I love the process of it, the campaigning, and the great strategies employed in it. It brings me up to my next point. I find it very disheartening and shameful that many people are so uninformed about the issues, and show little to no effort in being more informed about it. I know that some people feel that their vote doesn't matter, or maybe all politicians are evil, or they are simply tired of it all. I get the fact that we are all busy people who may not have enough time to spend on something like this. I feel that voting is a privilege that many people do not truly embrace. A Korean girl in my class recently said, " I would pay 1,000 dollars to be able to vote in the United States." Many third-world citizens literally die for the chance to be able to voice their opinions in a democratic way. Hopefully things improve in the future.

One thing that I'm proud to say is that the Asian American Vote has gone up big time. The Asian-American community definitely has a voice in politics!

2A.  Some reasons why I voted for Obama.
( in no particular order of significance)

    1. Change - While I know Obama won't change us completely, I do believe that his mere presence will do more benefit for our country than McCain can. He exemplifies something that we have never seen before. Becoming the first minority President is a big feat, and I rather see that than seeing the same old White Man in charge.

    2. My Future Children Have a better Chance.
Whomever I marry in the future, my kids will be part Asian at the least. So I'm thinking a little more long-term on this one. I believe that it is a major step of progress for the United States if we elect Barack Obama. It will give my future children a better chance in the future. While Asians may never be able to become President of the U.S., at least it gives them some hope that the U.S. is moving in the right direction in terms of racial equality, and that race cannot hold one back.

    3. McCain Called Vietnamese "Gooks".
He did this 8 years ago. I cannot vote for a man who calls my people a racially degrading term. I do not care if he called his communists captures gooks only. It is very ignorant for someone only 8 years ago, to be usually hateful terms like that to anyone. Did he not know that word should not be used? Would McCain ever dare use " nigger"? Hell No. Now think of the ramifications of this. McCain was unapologetic when asked about it. He Said, " I will call them gooks until the day I die.". Now is that someone who has the temperament to handle foreign crisis? How long would we be in Iraq? 1,000 years? I do not trust him to be calm and think clearly. He is clearly a hothead.

    4. I prefer Obama's Stance on Economy, Foreign Policy, Abortion, over McCain.

I'll just focus on abortion for now. I like obama's stance. He feels we should worry about how to educate females into not even being in the situation in the first place. I feel that if we educate people, the abortions might decrease. If we are like most pro-choice people who just want Roe v. Wade to be turned, then completely forget about it afterwards, it won't change a thing. Look. Let's be realistic. Roe V. Wade may never be turned around again. It was 1973. Personally, I do not want Abortion. Of course, but we have to be realistic too. What is the best thing to do realistically? I think the best thing is to educate people on the ramifications of Abortion, and do more to fund/help adoption causes. You can't just make abortion illegal, and then ignore it. You think some would do it illegally? You think they'll be good parents?

So many people are focused on overturning Roe V. Wade, but I never hear many of them talk about how we should educate people, help adoption services, etc. Let's face it. Many people have kids and are shitty parents. Let's worry about how we can educate people to lessen abortions, be better parents, etc.

    5. Sarah Palin.
    No explanation necessary.

    3. I Sing

I never knew Karaoke could be so difficult, yet so addicting at the same time. I used to have Karaoke at home. My parents bought the old Karaoke system, but I always thought it was lame. Recently, I've really enjoyed busting out falsettos at the Karaoke places. I can't sing to save my life, but who cares? The Karaoke background videos are also hilarious as well. It's always something totally unrelated to the song.

(split image to enhance my singing skills. Fierce. Fierce)

  • Hot Damn! It's October.

    Wow.
    I can't believe it's October already.

    1. Mama. What's wrong with the economy?

The economy! For all of you people that have been living under a rock, there was a 700 million dollar bailout proposal from the Bush Administration that was rejected by congress. However, another buyout has been approved by the Senate. What does this mean? It means we are screwed. We do not have enough money to be bailing out these corporate losers who are recklessly mismanaging our money. Without going too much into it, basically we are in tough times right now. The stock market has been taking a dive, etc. It will be hard in the future to get student loans, car loans, home loans, etc. The economy will take a big hit from this. This will affect a lot of people. Sometimes I wonder what jobs will be available to college graduates in the future. I guarantee it will be a lot more difficult to obtain a decent job. Many will not be able to pay for college, and the end of America being the top economy will start to happen. Who is to blame? Well I put blame on the Reagan Administration for starting this trend of total  Government  deregulation, free markets, etc. No rules lead to chaos, and greedy people recklessly managing money. Along with Reagan, the trend has continued with Bush Sr, Clinton, and the current Bush's Administration. No wonder we have a 3 trillion dollar debt. Kiss Goodbye to Social Security for my fellow peers.

    2. October.

Yesterday, as I was typing up some short papers at school, I suddenly realized that it was October already. 2-3 more months and 2008 will be over. I remember blogging about the plans and goals that I wanted to accomplish in 2008. I won't say that I've done all that I wanted to do, nor have I reached the goals that I wanted to reach, but there are a lot of things I've done, which I can gladly pat myself on the back for. October. Man.  Time does fly. Henry Austin Dobson says" Time goes you say? No. Time stays. We go". What did I do last October? Hmmmm....Time flies yo.

    3. Follow the Leader Bitches!

Haha. So I signed up for a leadership training program at my school. I never knew that our school offered one until my professor told me about it. It was free, so I figured why the heck not? I did not know however, that there was a lengthy interview process that came along with it. They only take a small amount, so I had to  interview for it. During the interview, I think I played my cards very well. I felt like a seasoned politician in a debate or something, I kept recycling the same things over and over. I guess it worked! I got accepted, and I will start next week! Follow my lead homies!

4, Golf and Anthony Kim > Baseball

While many of my friends, classmates, internet girlfriends, etc. are Angel or Dodger Fans, I don't care for either team. I don't care for the sport, nor the teams or players. Baseball is very boring to me. I don't find any interest in it at all. There was a time in history that I rooted for the Angels, but it has been at least 3 years since I watched more than 2 innings in a baseball game. I can't tell you who the best players are or anything like that.

My interest has shifted towards Golf. I am interested in golf more and more. Of course  I love Tiger Woods. He's my favorite half thai/half black person that I know. Actually, he's the only half thai/half black person that I know. Ok. I don't really know him, but I pretend that I do.  Anyways, with Tiger away, Anthony Kim has become my favorite golfer. He'll be the next big Thing!

    5. Cafe Sua Da.

Hi. My name is Tim Pham, and I'm an Caffeine-holic. It all started one day when I pulled an all-nighter to finish my essay for my political law class. I went straight to work the next morning without any sleep at all. I was so tired that I decided to drink some Cafe Sua Da. ( vietnamese coffee with condensed milk). I have never taken ecstasy before, but I would imagine that it felt something like that. It gave me such a spike in energy. My body was shaking, my mind alert, and I felt like I could take over the world! Ever since then , I have been drinking a lot of it. I need caffeine to function. It gives me such an energy spike. Everytime after I consume some caffeine, I feel like there is nothing in the world that can stop me. Please help me beat this addiction. Thank You.

  • Hello Breezys!

Good Morning Breezys! It is a new Day!

    1. I Can't Sleep!

This is starting to become somewhat of a serious problem for me. I can't Sleep! No Joke! Once I finish doing 4.5 pushups on my Push-Up Pros ( this product works homies and homegals), checking the latest news on tmz.com, or just taking a shower, I put on some fresh pair of 2xist Boxer Briefs and tuck myself into bed. ( no homo). The problem is that I end up laying in my bed staring at the ceiling for hours and hours. I roll over, I look at the clock, it says 4AM. Damn! I have work the next morning at 7AM. That was what happened last night. Boy I was more tired than anything. I'm thinking about drinking some alcohol before I sleep to help put me to sleep. Nothing works! So it was about 3:43, no..actually like 3:44 AM in the morning last night..err last morning..whatever....when I couldn't sleep, so I busted out my laptop and went on AIM. The only guy I know that stays up that late is this talented Starbucks worker named Alan Tran. I am not kidding when I say that this guy has mad Starbuckin' Skills. Whether it is the vast amount of sugar and caffeine in his Starbuck drinks, or maybe he's just checking for girls on myspace when his parents are sleeping, this guy can stay up late with the best of them..anyways..we have a convo last night...on Aim..

    my10yearplan: Dude Alan! It's almost 4. I can't sleep!
AznEmerica: Don't Worry Young Strawberry Milkshake Tim. You can talk to me and stay up with me!
my10yearplan: Ugghh suree. I hope that works.
AznEmerica: We can talk for hours!
my10yearplan: Thanks Alan! I guess when I decide to go to sleep, you can sleep with me!
( I would normally say no homo to something as wildly as homo-erotic as that, but do the "no homo" rules apply after 2 in the morning? I'm not sure. I'll go check urban di ctionary).

(Tim and Alan do the chat thing: Who needs sleeping pills when you got Alan Tran on Aim?)

And After hearing alan talk for hours. I still could not sleep. Eventually I slept at around 6. I woke up at 7 something. And I was tired.....Hopefully I can sleep tonight to the Aim words of a female, instead of mr. starbuck Alan Tran!

  • Summer Love

    Chào các bạn thân mến!

This is probably going to be one very long entry. I just feel like writing a whole lot, because I probably won't write anything for a while. Be Prepared!

Like Oh My Gosh! I can't believe people from the Ukraine read my Xanga. I do consider my writing to be somewhat interesting to me, but I don't know how interesting it would be to a Vladimir Rashpinksyslov in a Ukrainian coffee shop. Oh Well! I'm sure my Momma is proud! When she gave birth to me some odd years ago, I'm sure she didn't envision her boy as a doctor or as an engineer, but rather a Xanga Blogger who sometimes receives a couple of anonymous views from countries like the Ukraine. I told ya I'd make it as a star Momma! Haha.

    ( Tim Pham. Professional Xangerer)

Speaking of writing, I think I'm doing an adequate job of  maintaining my goal of writing whatever that is on my mind for at least a couple of times a week. I can still hear my school's Creative Writing Club Program saying, " Practice a lot in the Summer. You need to improve your grammar, your creativity, and you will have a better shot at making it in the Fall". Yep, so that's what I've been trying to do lately. In between my 10 hour job helping my moms,( Don't get it twisted. I only have one mother. I just like to add an s, like how rappers say it) hanging out with my friends, completing my weird self -goals, etc., I have been practicing my writing. I heard that practice makes perfect, but if it doesn't, I guess it'll be close.

    1. Can you still be manly while watching The Hills and The Teen Choice Awards?

( Seven Things I hate About You is a Catchy Tune.)

( Selena Gomez. Wizards of Waverly Place. NO! I don't watch that. Somehow I just know.)

So last night me and some of my old high school male friends decided to have a " Guys Kickback". I was expecting lots of beer, a lot of testosterone filled games like Arm-Wrestling,Watermelon seed spitting contests, or simply beer pong, but it turned out nothing like that. Has this ever happened to you before? You are with a group of friends, and no one has any clue on what to do? You stand there and waste 2 hours, and you still can't decide on anything. I always end up being the guy who decides everything. Not that I don't like deciding stuff or planning stuff, but if you are the guy that has been the decider since the Junior year of high school, it gets a little tiring. So once again, I had to do something, before we ended up sitting on the couch for 5 hours. A little annoyed, I thought of something that would force them to choose places if we ever hung out in the future. I decided we would order pizza and watch The Teen Choice Awards. Wow! I'm shocked that they were pretty content with watching The Teen Choice Awards. In between watching Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Vanessa Hudgens, and Selena Gomez,( how the heck do I even know who she is? I'm scared for myself) we kicked it like men. As a good friend, I naturally had to make everyone drink some beer and wrestle( no homo) in between the commercial breaks to still keep some masculinity for ourselves. After the Teen Choice Awards were over, we clinched the night with Season 1 of "The Hills". Now that was all me. I forced everyone to watch The Hills, because I simply dig Lauren Conrad. I love her style. She is so graceful, so elegant. Now to let my masculine side do the talking:, " Shawwtty Is A Ten Yo".

( Lauren Conrad. The Dream Would say " Shawwty is a Ten")

    2. Donny Hathaway's "A Song For You "and Sam Cooke's " Change Gon' Come"

I have many songs that I consider to be my favorite, But After spending some time listening to my music while running at the track, It just hit me. There isn't any songs that  stand out to me like those two songs. I love Michael Jackson's " Thriller"  or " Billie Jean" like the next Michael Jackson die-hard, but these two just stood out to me. I would probably say that they are my two favorite songs of all-time in no particular order.

I was born by the river in a little tent

Oh and just like the river I been a runnin' ever since
It's been a long, a long time coming but I know
A change gon' come oh yes it will
     - Sam Cooke " Change Gon Come". Those lines just are so deep.

And " A song For You" is so soulful.

    3.  Trường Việt Ngữ

(Here are some of my former fellow Vietnamese School Classmates. I bet they learned nothing in Vietnamese School as well.)

    ( Left: Thomas Pham.)
    (Middle: His sister Liz Pham)
(Right: Thomas and Liz's Cousin David Diep. David was supercool. He was like 19 years old in a class full of 10 year olds.)

Yes. I have been practicing my Vietnamese as well. For all you guys that don't know, I work as a Bilingual Translator for The Garden Grove Unified School District. I somehow got lucky and was hired, despite barely knowing how to read or write Vietnamese. Like any natural Vietnamese boy, my momma and my pops made me attend Vietnamese School. But besides having many fond memories of playing football, basketball, or ditching to go play arcades, I don't think I learned much of anything. Especially during my Junior High to High School years, I was kind of ashamed to speak Vietnamese. I'm not sure how it is now, but back in my days of schooling, the biggest derogatory word used was " FOB". "Fresh Off The Boat". Oh how I dreaded being called a "Fob", or having anything associated with the term " FOB". I think I consciously made the effort to disassociate myself with the language, culture, etc for a while. However, as I got older, I kind of realized how ignorant my thinking was. God made me Vietnamese, and I'm proud of my culture, my language, etc. Though I'm more American, I do want to learn as much Vietnamese as I possibly can. Plus I was born in America. It's stupid how I was scared of being called a Fob. Which is a stupid term anyways.

( example of Fob Gangster in my days.)

    So........Xin mấy bản
đừng chọc mã gọi tôi FOB.

    4. Tình yêu mùa hè - Ann Nguyễn

...Tình yêu mùa hè is literally translated as " Summer Love". I love summers. Go listen to that New Kids on The Block song " Summertime". Describes the feeling of Summer Love perfectly! Now to talk about my Justin Timberlake like " Summer Love", which happened in the 5th or 6th grade, I don't quite remember. It is so embarrassing haha. But I like telling embarrassing stories. It brings good memories and good stories. I love stories!

Puppy Love. I still can remember her name. Her name Was Ann Nguyen. She had long black hair, brown eyes, and a soft voice that sounded so sweet.
She was probably my first real "crush". Out of a class of 30 or so students, she was probably the only girl that didn't make fun of me for my imitation Nike Shirt that read " NKIE". ( Blame the parents who thought it was Nike. and bought it for me at some swap meet!)
HAHA. Nike was the "in" thing when I was a little boy. So we became sort of friends. I would be playing basketball or something, when she would ask me to join her at the monkey bars. We probably did some monkeying around, when I realized that I liked her. I wanted to write a letter that said, " Do you want to be my girlfriend? Circle One. Yes, No, ". I then just hid my feelings from her, and sort of let it go on for a while, when I learned that Ann Nguyen was going out with some dude named John. Wow. It crushed me . I then went out and bought a valentine's card and wrote on the back of it " Dear Ann. This Is Tim. I'll love you Forever and Ever". LOL. It was the end of the year, so summer break was there. I knew where she lived( no stalker), so I put it in her mailbox. A week or so later, she returned my letter and I was so nervous. I opened up the letter, took it out, and let the butterflies in my stomach subside. I then took the letter out, and it was surprising. She didn't circle YES or NO. She wrote " MAYBE". I was thinking " Wow. That's better than a NO". However weeks went by, and  I never heard from her again. I bet she was thinking as a fifth grader, " Damn.  Ewwww..This Guy is super creepy. I'll write "maybe" so he doesn't do weird stalkerish things to me." So Summer Lovin'...always makes me think of this incident.

  • Summer, Role Models, Black Musicians, and City Council Run?

    1. Dog days of Summer.

August is almost here, and I can feel the dog days of summer approaching already. My days have largely been consumed of working unpaid for my mom. I'm not going to lie about it. I sometimes get frustrated and tired of the monotonous unpaid work, but I then remember that it is my mom! As I look at the bigger picture, I try to find joy and happiness in the fact that I have an opportunity to help my mom out as much as I possibly can. Many times I do not appreciate what she does fully. From getting up early cleaning the house, to working 10 hour days, to cooking, cleaning, etc. I know that it is no easy task at all. So whenever I do get a little frustrated, I just try to look at the bigger picture, and do whatever I can to help ease the load for her. August Though. It means that summer is almost ending, and that is always a little bittersweet for me.

    2. Role Model.

Besides my parents, I'm not sure if I ever had any "real" role models. I never really looked up to anyone or anything like that. My parents did a good job of raising me, but I wish I could have had someone who was younger that I could have related to and looked up to. I never had any of that. Anyhow, I never really considered myself someone that people could look up to. I'm flawed, make mistakes, and can be pretty selfish sometimes. In the past couple of years, I've been helping out with a Christian Camp every summer. Through that camp, I've met some kids who are about 3-4 years younger than me, and I never really thought anything about it. I never thought that I would ever talk to them again. It's kind of strange now that I look back. We've somehow kept a connection, and I think that we've actually grown and become really good friends. I would have never imagined that we would be where we are today. I saw most of them at sports festival this past weekend, and I didn't admit it, but I felt really proud inside to see where they are today. I try to do my best to help them out with whatever they need, because I know that I never had a person do that for me when I was a teenager. I am not perfect, but if I can somehow be a person they can talk to, or w/e, then I think that is a positive step on my part. Without being too mushy mushy, I am really glad that we are good friends, and I am big on friendship.

    3. Black Musicians.

I've never really thought about it, but I sort of discriminate when it comes to music. As I was scrolling through my Itunes last night, I suddenly realized it. Over 90% of the artists that I listen to are Black. I've never been conscious of it, but that is true. I'm not sure why. Growing up, I barely knew any black people. All my favorite musicians are black. I can't name one white person on my favorite list. Donnie Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding,  are some of my favorite singers of all time. They are all black. I guess I'm more into soul/rnb music than rock music. Actually I do have some white artist that i like. Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, Jon B, etc. Anyhow, I've always been disturbed by some people who say that someone is "white-washed" or "Wannabe Black" if they dress a certain way, or listen to a certain type of music. That is ridiculous. Music is music to me. I'm Asian. How do you want me to dress? In Ao Dais? What do you want me to listen to? Paris By Night? Anyhow, I hope you get my point. I also find it stupid how people are more prone to accept an asian person that plays guitar, listens to rock n roll, and into vintage clothing, than an asian person who listens to rap music, dresses in Sean John, and wears stunna shades. It's all American to me. America has different cultures. IT has nothing to do with being "black" or "white".  Speaking of black and white, I love Michael Jackson. By far, my favorite artist of ALL-TIME. I still listen to "Thriller"and " Off The Wall" all the time. I have a set of "must-haves' that  I look for in a potential girlfriend. One of them is "Must Love Michael Jackson As Much As  I Do". Any girl that can't appreciate Michael Jackson, I have to gladly pass. I'm sorry.

4 . Garden Grove City Council.

I am seriously tempted to run for Garden Grove City Council. All I have to do is file the registration paper by August 8th. Hmm. So Tempting. Two seats are up for my city this year. I probably have no shot at winning, but it sure is pretty cool to see your name on a ballot. To get nominated, you have to have to be over 18, a resident of Garden Grove, a registered Voter, and have a minimum of 10 voter signatures. I am all of that, and I think it is not that difficult to get 10. HaHa. Still Thinking...

    5. Asia..Here I come..

I have officially saved 800 dollars so far already for my summer '09 Asia Trip. I am trying to save about 6-7k  by next summer. I want to visit Japan, China, Thailand, and maybe more. I hope I don't blow all that money on something wasteful.
